Description: Our mission is to be “A trusted support when life gets tough. All people. Any time. Every time.” Crisis counselors connect over telephone, chat, and text with people of all ages experiencing crisis.  This position is a hybrid counselor combined with responsibilities under our Zero Suicide grant.  The Zero Suicide portion involves conducting follow-up contact and support to people at-risk for suicide and struggling with substance abuse, along with building relationships with community partners, conducting trainings, and collecting/reporting data.  Position is planned to shift more to the Zero Suicide aspect as the program expands.

This position will typically work traditional daytime hours – no weekends or late nights required!  Occasional paid overtime opportunities available.  Position starts at $18/hour to $26.25/hour based on benefit dollar allocation.  This position has the opportunity to work remotely/from home for some shifts; other shifts will be required to be staffed at our Crisis Center location.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human service or related field and two years’ relevant experience
  • Comfort using basic computer software
  • Reliable, high-speed internet at home OR ability to work all shifts from Cedar Rapids office
  • Must pass all background checks completed by Foundation 2
  • Candidates must live in Iowa
  • Basic typing skills and data entry skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in crisis services
  • Knowledge and experience working in the mental health and/or substance use field
  • Background utilizing motivational interviewing
