Overview of the role

Mobile Crisis Counselors are often first responders for individuals and families experiencing a mental health emergency. You are responsible for providing services to individuals and families throughout Cedar, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine, and Scott Counties. You work closely with law enforcement, hospital staff, and community providers to offer compassionate, client-centered counseling, stabilization, and connection to community resources.

Applicants must be willing to consistently sign up for three to four on-call shifts of six (6) hours each per week; some weekend and holiday work is also expected. Opportunities are available for all shifts with an emphasis on weekend, school-day, evening, and overnight hours.

    • $31.84/hour ($37.14/hour on holidays) per hour when dispatched for a in-person crisis counseling and completing paperwork

What you’ll do

  • Provide on-site suicide risk assessment and crisis intervention services to clients of all ages in Cedar, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine, and Scott Counties.
  • Offer compassionate, objective, client centered counseling to individuals.
  • Assist individuals and families with connection to local resources and community providers.
  • Complete required documentation.

What you need

  • Must reside in a community that allows you to respond to crisis calls in Cedar, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine, and Scott Counties within 60 minutes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field with two (2) years relevant experience OR master’s degree in human service-related field and one (1) year of related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and be insurable by the agency auto insurance policy.
  • Pass all background checks completed by Foundation 2 Crisis Services.
  • Attend all MCO trainings within 120 days of hire (40 hours, including two (2) consecutive eight (8) hour days).
