Light the Night
A portion of the Operation Awareness Campaign supports luminaries at Light the Night. This is our annual memorial event in honor of those who have died by suicide. This event is open to the public at no cost. Each year, we receive more than 100 requests for a luminary to be lit in honor of a loved one who has died by suicide. Friends and family are welcome to attend to evening event held each year on September 10.
Your $25 donation ensures we can continue to offer this memorial event at no cost to loved ones. If you have lost a loved one to suicide, we provide a variety of support services. Learn about Light the Night here.
Suicide Loss Survivor Support Group
A portion of the Operation Awareness Campaign supports literature and other expenses for our Suicide Loss Survivor Support Group. This group meets twice a month at our Headquarters location in Downtown Cedar Rapids. It is open to anyone ages 18+. There is no cost to participate.
The Suicide Loss Survivor Support Group is an opportunity for individuals to connect with others who have had similar losses. Suicide loss survivor Sherri shared why she chooses to attend the group.
“Suicide brought a lot of complex emotions that were difficult to talk about with friends and even family members. We each had a different relationship with my dad and different emotions around the loss. Being able to sit with the complex rollercoaster of emotions with others that “get it” – and to have my feelings validated, not judged – has been an important part of my healing process. We have said it’s the “best group you never wanted to be a part of.” But if you have experienced loss by suicide, this group can provide an incredible sense of support, community, healing and hope.”

Legacy Wall

A portion of the Operation Awareness Campaign provides tiles for our Legacy Wall, located at the Foundation 2 Crisis Services headquarters in Cedar Rapids. Personalized tiles are placed on our wall in memorial of an individual who has died by suicide, or in honor/memory of individuals connected to our mission. By sponsoring tiles, Iowa Giving Crew makes it possible to honor individuals who may not otherwise have a tile on the Legacy wall.
If you are interested in a Legacy tile, but are unable to meet the donation requirement, please email Katie Curtis at kcurtis@foundation2.org. Thanks to the Iowa Giving Crew, a limited number of tiles are gifted annually for those who would like to have a tile created in memory or in honor of someone they love.
