What is a crisis?
“Crisis” can describe many different situations or emotions that hard difficult to handle. Our caring, compassionate counselors are available 24/7 to help you navigate a crisis, no matter what that looks like for you.
At Foundation 2 Crisis Services, we define crisis as a situation that feels too difficult to manage on your own. We know many things can fall into that definition. What feels like a crisis to one person may not feel overly stressful to another person, or vis versus. It can be caused by single event, or a serious of small instances that build on each other.
Everyone can – and does – experience crises in life. Having a mental illness can make a crisis feel more unmanageable on your own, but no one is exempt from experiencing stressful or overwhelming times in life.
Examples of crises we can respond to include:
- feelings of anxiety or depression
- thoughts of suicide or self-harm
- a traumatic event, such as a shooting, natural disaster or death of a loved one
- difficulty with relationships, including parent-child and intimate partner relationships
- trouble managing life responsibilities, roles or expectations
- stress about financial hardships
- difficulty handling death or loss
- and more
Often times, when someone is experiencing a crisis, it can be difficult to see a path forward. When in crisis, our emotions and mental processes don’t operate the way they do when we’re calm. You can feel constantly on edge, have trouble remembering things, cry or get upset more easily, and feel like there is no way to overcome the issue.
Talking about your problems with a trained crisis counselor can help you break it down into smaller pieces, release pent-up emotions, and gain clarity to increase problem-solving skills. You may also feel more connected and foster a sense of social support when you reach out. Many individuals feel significantly better after talking about what they’re going through. It’s always free, confidential and available 24/7.
We can help you through a crisis, or aid you in supporting a loved one, co-worker or even a stranger through a difficult time.
All crisis support through Foundation 2 Crisis Services is free and confidential. We are a trusted support for all people, any time, every time.
