The 988 Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the United States. We are one of two agencies in Iowa who answer 988 in the state.
What is 988?
988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
How it works
When you call or text 988, you will be routed to one of the two agencies in Iowa that are part of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline network. We answer a majority of calls placed by Iowa area codes. Once we connect, you’ll receive the same high-quality, rapid support you receive at Foundation 2 Crisis Services.
How to connect
- Dial 988 on a cell phone or landline.
- Send a text to 988. You’ll be directed to counselors from the Veterans, Spanish-language, LGBTQI+ service, or the main 988 line. Any text message to 988 starts this process.
- Chat through the 988 Lifeline website.
