What is 988?

The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provide free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. Foundation 2 Crisis Services is one of two agencies statewide that answer these calls for Iowans.

When you call 988, you will speak with a trained crisis counselor at the partner crisis center closest to you (potentially one at Foundation 2 Crisis Services). These services are complimentary to Foundation 2 Crisis Services’ programming, and we are honored to be part of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and efforts to make crisis care easily available to all.

The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7/365 days a year for anyone who is struggling with mental health, thoughts of suicide, or another challenge. If you’re concerned about someone you care about and don’t know how to best intervene, you can also call/chat/text 988 to have a counselor support and guide you in next steps.
