988 offers 24/7 access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing mental health-related distress. This three digital dial code is a rebrand of the original National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and was launched in July 2022. As a 988 partner, we are one of the centers that answer these calls!

What is 988?
In 2020, Congress designated the new 988 dialing code to be operated through the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. It is an important step toward a crisis care system that can connect everyone with emergency mental health intervention and support. All 988 services are free and confidential. In July 2022, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline officially became the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Learn more about 988 with SAMHSA.
How We Help
The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provide free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Foundation 2 Crisis Services is one of two agencies statewide that answer these calls for Iowans. When you call 988, you will speak with a trained crisis counselor at the partner crisis center closest to you (potentially one at Foundation 2 Crisis Services). We are honored to be part of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and the efforts to make crisis care easily available to all.
